Appalachian State
University
Appalachian
State University is a comprehensive, public,
coeducational, liberal arts university located
in Boone NC. It is part of the larger University
of North Carolina System of public universities
and is widely known for its small, but rapidly
growing campus. The landscape and demographics
of Appalachian State University are fast
changing this decade after Time magazine named
it their “College of the Year” in 2001 and after
their now famous football team won three
consecutive National Championships starting in
the year 2005. The school received much acclaim
and publicity after winning the championships,
however athletics are not the only thing to be
excited about at Appalachian State University.
Year after year, Appalachian State University NC
ranks highly and very well in the categories
covered by the U.S. News and World Report’s
America’s Best Colleges Guide, and more and more
students and faculty are coming to the
university than ever.
The university is comprised of four schools, as
well as a School of Music and offers more than
170 degrees and 1,500 courses. As of this year
Appalachian State’s enrollment is around 15,871
(13,997 undergraduate and 1,874 graduate) thus
making the small town of Boone not so small
during the academic year. The positive alliance
between Appalachian State University and the
surrounding town of Boone NC continues to thrive
and promote both the university and the town.
In
addition to being a great addition to the town
of Boone and the unique opportunities the
university provides, perhaps the best thing
about Appalachian State University and the town
of Boone NC is the dynamic and progressive
atmosphere that is created when you combine a
small town and four year, liberal arts school.
The downtown area of Boone intersects with
Appalachian State’s gorgeous campus and provides
the perfect mix of cultural things to see and
do, unique gift shops and historical homes and
museums. In addition to the unique nature of the
campus life and atmosphere you’ll find downtown,
Appalachian State University NC brings several
different types of cultural and theatrical
events throughout the year and their renowned
Appalachian Summer Festival concert and event
series entertains many each summer with its
outstanding performances and scheduled events.
Also, the newly completed Turchin Center for the
Visual Arts and the Belk Library and Information
Commons offer inviting architecture and
opportunities for ASU’s students, faculty and
staff to learn more and enjoy what they bring.
Appalachian
State University has long been a strong
influence on the greater Boone NC and High
Country communities. Providing excellent job
opportunities as well as a well rounded
